NILGA publish new Councillor Guide The Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA) have produced a new Councillor Guide for 2019 which is a valuable resource for councillors to help support them in the role.    You can access and download the guide by following this link   NILGA Councillor Guide 2019
Local Government Awards 2018   Winners Announced Representatives from the National Association of Councillors attended the Local Government Awards ceremony that took place on Friday 12 October at the Armagh City Hotel.   At the event, which was co-ordinated by NILGA and APSE and hosted by Sarah Travers, there were 29 finalists that had been selected from 78 entries received by the organisers for this year’s competition. Following opening remarks from Councillor Dermot Curran, the NILGA President and Paul O’Brien, the ASPE Chief Executive, the winners from each of the 9 categories were announced and we are delighted that the National Association of Councillors award for Best Initiative by a Councillor/Councillor Group went to: Councillor Julie Flaherty Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council Read More….
New Award for Councillors  The National Association of Councillors has created a new award for Councillors that have provided many years of dedicated work in their support of others, and during that time have made an outstanding contribution to public and community service. Three Councillors, who have served over 125 years between them, were the first to receive the long service award certificates, which were kept as a closely guarded secret until they were presented on Thursday 12 October 2018. The awards were made as follows:   For over 45 years service - Councillor Dermot Curran of Newry, Mourne & Down District Council For over 40 years service – Alderman Jim Speers of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council and Alderman Jim Dillon Of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Read More…..

Social Enterprise Northern Ireland Gala Awards Event 2018
The   National   Association   of   Councillors   were   proud to    support    the    Annual    Social    Enterprise    NI    Gala Awards event this year for the first time.   The   awards   showcase   the   Social   Enterprise   Sector   in Northern     Ireland     and     representatives     from     the National    Association    of    Councillors    attended    the Gala   Evening   which   was   held   in   The   Stormont   Hotel, Belfast on Friday 19 October 2018.    Read More

NAC Women’s Representative At our recent AGM, the NAC Chairman, Ald Michael Henderson and the NAC Secretary, Cllr Joe Boyle conveyed their thanks on behalf of the Association to the outgoing NAC Executive Committee Women’s Representative, Cllr Beth Adger MBE.   They stated that during Cllr Adgers’ year of serving her attendance at meetings was excellent, she was always to the fore whenever called upon and was key to addressing and dealing with requests from the Executive Committee.
